The Roost: how dragon mating works, with hatchling odds

In the Roost you pair one of your bonded dragons with one of three ledge dragons that change every day, and hatch a second-generation dragon. The hatchling takes one colour and one tail from its parents. The odds are shown before you hatch, and each bonded dragon can parent one clutch.

How mating works

  1. Bond a dragon. Survive the Threshing. Every dragon you bond can parent one clutch.
  2. Pick a ledge dragon. Three unbonded dragons sit on the Roost ledges each day. They are the same for every player and change at midnight UTC.
  3. Read the odds, then hatch. The clutch panel shows the chance of each colour and tail before you commit. The hatchling gets its own card and link.

A hatchling’s rarity sits between its parents’ and is never higher than the better one. To breed for a specific dragon, see the table of all 30 breeds.

Mating questions

How is a hatchling’s colour decided?
It takes the colour of one parent. With two different colours the split is 50/50, unless one parent is black: then black passes 30% of the time and the other colour 70%. Two parents of the same colour always give that colour.
How is the tail decided?
The same way, always 50/50 between the two parents’ tails.
How do I hatch a blue dragon?
Pair any of your dragons with a blue ledge dragon, or use a blue dragon of your own as the parent. Either way half of the hatchlings are blue. A blue ledge dragon appears on roughly one day in three.
How often can I hatch?
Once per bonded dragon. Hatchlings cannot be parents. To hatch again, bond another dragon in the Threshing.
Whose dragons are on the ledges?
Nobody’s. They are generated from the date, are the same for every player, and are not other people’s dragons.
Is this how mating works in the official Dragonkind game?
No. These are the rules of Threshing Game Online, an unofficial fan game. They say nothing about Dragonkind.
