Threshing Game vs Dragonkind: what is different
Dragonkind is the official Threshing game from Yarros Ink, launched on 1 October 2026. Threshing Game Online is an unofficial fan game on the same idea. The practical differences: the official game signs you in with an emailed code and makes burned players wait a few hours, while the fan game needs no sign-in, lets you retry at once, and publishes its breeds and odds.

What is known about the official game here comes from its own site and from press coverage of the launch, both listed at the end of this page. Where something is only reported by players, the text says so.
The sign-in and the wait, in detail
The first thing Dragonkind asks for is an email address. A login code is sent to it, and you type the code in to enter the Vale. At launch, players reported codes that arrived late or not at all, and a queue in front of the game when demand spiked. The second hurdle is the burn. In the official game a burned rider is sent away for a few hours before the next attempt; Parade's launch coverage puts the wait at four. Both hurdles are deliberate. They turn the Threshing into an event you come back to, and that is a fair design for an official launch.
“You have to wait four hours before you attempt again.”
Threshing Game Online removes both. There is no email field anywhere on the site. You type a callsign on the roll-call screen, the Wingleader assigns you a Wing, Section and Squad, and you walk to the Vale in the same minute. When a dragon burns you, the Burned screen shows one button, Again, and it starts a fresh run at once. Your burn count is kept and printed on the card of the dragon that finally bonds you, so the retries are part of the story rather than a timer.
The trade is obvious. The official game's gates make a bond feel earned over days. This one makes it feel earned over attempts. If you have ten minutes and a burned rider, this is the one you can actually play.
What is published here, and what is not
Dragonkind keeps its mechanics private. There is no official list of breeds, no published bond rate, and no confirmed route to a black dragon; what circulates is player theory. Threshing Game Online takes the opposite stance because it can. Its rules are small enough to count. Every one of the 16,384 possible runs through the seven scenes has been enumerated, so the site can say that 66% of runs bond, that each of the 30 breeds has a known share of those bonds, and that a blue dragon answers to a specific pattern of choices. The dragons page lists all 30 breeds with colour, tail, base power and the choices that lead to each. The Black Path page shows the first three of the seven hidden steps and reveals the rest to you one burn at a time.
The Roost is the other thing the official game does not offer. Pair a bonded dragon with one of three ledge dragons, see the colour and tail odds before you commit, and hatch a second generation that gets its own card. Every dragon, bonded or hatched, has a permanent share link and a six-second clip you can download for Threads, TikTok or Reels.
What this site does not have is the canon. The official game is written by the author's own studio, with its own art and its own version of how the Threshing goes. Nothing here quotes it, and nothing here should be read as a guide to it.
When each one fits
Play Dragonkind for the canonical experience: the author's own story and the official art.
Play Threshing Game Online while you wait for a login code or a retry timer, when you want to try again and again in one sitting, or when you want to know the numbers: which choices lead where, how rare a breed is, what a pairing will hatch.
Play both if you are chasing a black dragon. Use this site to learn how heat works: every choice carries one to three flames, the last three scenes roll a burn against the heat of the run, and careful runs survive while hot runs draw rarer dragons. That instinct for reading a choice transfers even though the official odds are different and unknown.
Questions
- What is Dragonkind?
- Dragonkind is the official Threshing game for Rebecca Yarros's Empyrean series, at dragonkind.com. It is published by Yarros Ink and launched on 1 October 2026, two days after the story collection Threshing Day.
- Is Threshing Game Online a copy of it?
- No. It is a separate, fan-made game with its own scenes, rules, breeds and art. It uses the idea of the Threshing from the books. It does not use the official game’s text, images or code.
- Do my dragons carry over to Dragonkind?
- No. The two games are unrelated. Dragons bonded here live in your browser and on their share links.
- Why play the fan game at all?
- Mostly for the wait. If you were burned in the official game and are waiting to retry, or your login code has not arrived, you can play here in the meantime with no sign-in and no cooldown.
- Which one should I play first?
- The official one, if you can get in. It is the author's own version of the Threshing. This one is for the hours in between and for players who want published odds, breed pages and mating.
- Does the fan game collect my email or any account data?
- No. There is no sign-up form and nothing is sent to a server when you play. Your callsign, dragons and Black Path progress are stored in your browser. Clearing site data removes them, and a share link keeps a copy of the dragon it was made for.
- Can I play on a phone and continue on a computer?
- The game itself works on both, in portrait on a phone and with a wide painting on a desktop. Progress does not sync between devices, because there is no account. If you want a dragon on both, open its share link on the other device and take it to the Roost from there.
- Does Threshing Game Online work when Dragonkind is queued or down?
- Yes. The two sites share nothing. If the official game is in a queue, is not sending login codes, or is down, this one is unaffected.
- Are the burn odds here the same as in the official game?
- Nobody outside the official team knows the official odds, and this site does not claim to. The numbers on this site describe this game only: they come from counting every one of the 16,384 possible runs through its seven scenes.
